Default Female Combat - Room 101

OK, so I've talked about some of the things I love about the many aspects of females in combat. However, as with all things, there are some things I'm not so keen on too. I've already mentioned how I'm not a fan of catfighting or most mixed fighting (from a spectator's standpoint!), but they are entire genres. What I'm talking about in this post are the little things that occassionally creep into a video/picture on the sites I do enjoy.

Obviously, this all comes down to personal taste, particularly in an era where 99% of the material produced on many websites is custom based. So here are some of my own F/F peeves....

1) The 'roll-up' pin. As seen in pro-wrestling, it is, by far and away, the worst finish to a match ever. Out of the blue, a wrestler is able to roll her opponent into a pin and win the match. It's just so unsatsfying to watch! There's no sense of a real victory, no feeling of one woman proving her superiority over another. These are the things that a submission, a knockout or a brutal finishing move provide, in different ways. A roll-up is simply... blah. It's like finishing a match with the toss of a coin!

2) The double knockout. Staying with the theme of match finishes, another way to completely kill a match is the double knockout. For me, an essential part of the 'vibe' of a match is having a winner and a loser. The winner may not always be the woman I'd want it be (unless it's my custom, of course!) but nevertheless, the outcome of the match is that one woman is left standing, or better yet posing over her defeated opponent. A match that ends with BOTH participants out cold is like finishing a match with the toss of a coin and it landing on its side!!

3) The catfight 'influence'. The little things in a match that are straight out of a catfight. Hairpulling, of course. But other things too. The use of the ropes (in terms of choking an opponent); the stomach claw; choking. Don't get me wrong, I always enjoy seeing a heel be a heel, and the use of illegal moves is an important part of that. But I'd much rather see a heel apply a hold and leave it on after an opponent submits, or just be more brutal with the punching/kicking/impact moves to establish their heel credentials, instead of using those things previously mentioned.

4) Referees. OK, so sometimes they are a neccessity. And in pro-wrestling, in front of a live audience, I don't really mind them. Take them out of that context though and suddenly, for me, they just become so much more noticable. If I'm watching two ladies in bikinis wrestling, a referee on screen is the proverbial elephant in the ring (with a stripey shirt!) I'll be honest, it's not technically the presence of a ref that bothers me. It's the presence of a male ref. Make it a female ref, and that's cool. I just don't want to see some random bloke in the ring sucking all the hotness out of a match!

5) Tights/Stockings/Hose. Simple enough, this one. I like legs. I wanna see 'em. I never got into the idea that covering 'em up with something could make them look sexier. No. Cos they're covered up.

So those are a few of my unfavourite things. How about yours?

Just thought of another one.

6) Hold 'Challenges'/Friendly Competition. Arguably the most pointless videos ever produced by any company that's done so. Not a match, by any real stretch of the imagination, these 'contests' usually feature two women taking turns to put one another in holds to see who submits first. So you still get some incredibly hot women; you still get some well applied holds... but what you don't get is the absolutely essential ingredient to any match, the aggression. Surely part of the thrill of seeing a woman clamp a hold on another is that she has to fight to achieve that (even in a fantasy/scripted match, it has to look that way). If one woman just considerately sticks her head between her opponents thighs, there's just no sense of struggle whatsoever.

Ultimately, the idea behind these videos seems to be one that wants to see the holds but doesn't actually like the idea of women wrestling. And that's just weird.

Good points one and all - most of which I agree with.

Two further things for me, partly related at least:

1. Pictures supposedly depicting matches that are quite obviously posed by models. Nothing wrong with models and nothing wrong with great pictures, but trying to pass it off as something from a real contest? C'mon...

2. People posting up details of 'experiences' that are quite obviously sheer fantasy / fiction. Why not just be honest about it? If your fantasy is to see your wife wrestling your sister (or whatever) then fine, but why not just describe it as such, rather than trying to pretend that it's real with - conveniently enough - no images or supporting material whatsoever.

Yeah, I know what ya mean. It's amazing just how many fight fans have 'happened' to see real fights in their lives, and usually such intense ones between people they happen to know. And I ain't judging here, but the whole sister/mother thing? I really don't get that at all.

Default You sound exactly like a wrestling fan

All of your points suggest you actually enjoy watching women with some skills actually competing.

Oh except the ref thing, about which I agree with you very strongly. The ref is always there (except perhaps in pure greco-roman or amateur wresting) to be part of the entertainment, meaning the producers don't trust the women to entertain you with their skills and personalities.

I don't really mean to imply that a ref or catfights aren't a form of wrestling. But they detract from the entertainment IMHO.

Oh I have other peeves around posed images of women with jewelry and heels "fighting". Puh-leeze!

But that's pretty much the point of the thread, Rhay . Don't misunderstand me, I ain't insisting that a law be passed and from this day on no tights/hose whatever will ever be worn in a female fight again. I'm just saying that I don't like it, and explaining why.

There's sucha diversity in the female-fight genre, so it's interesting to see what people don't enjoy, as well as what they do. You mentioned that bare legs do nothing for you... I'd be interested as to why you think that is the case.
