I'm in the process of shooting some photographic wrestling matches in London with a view to starting a site to host them.
Each one is made up of around 60 shots and shows a match from start to finish. My question is - is this of interest to people or is the general feeling that video matches are far preferable to photo sets? Thanks, ed |

There's probably a little preference towards video, but I don't think photos should be underestimated. Footmode's sites are certainly some of my favourites online, and they are (predominantly) photo-based - and, for their Martial Arts style fights, I think photos are actually a better medium, as it allows them to produce matches that would be a lot more difficult to realise in a video meduim.
Obviously, wrestling is a fighting style that is (arguably) easier for video, but that doesn't mean that photos can't be effective too. Photos allow us to capture a specific moment in a match so, whilst the more high-flying or impact moves of pro-style matches would not neccessarily translate well, submission moves and holds can led to some fantastic photos. I look forward to seeing your work!

I'm pretty certain that for most catfight fans (speaking generally of course), it's not so much the media as the mode. Videos are nice because you can fast-forward over the stupidly repetitive holds or scripted trash-talk and get on with it; hell, I tend to watch the first ten minutes of a video just to have an idea of each woman's personality, and then zip straight to the final ten minutes for the concluding domination. Photos on the other hand are, if given the correct treatment, just as effective. I think that the "Apartment House Wrestling Gallery" is a great example of how to post photo sets online in that the pictures are large and, most importantly, when you click on one it sends you to the next photo. I also like the way this particular board effectively uses photos, because all one really has to do is scroll down from one to the next. I've subscribed to certain fight sites in which the photo sets were stupifyingly reductive- the preview pictures were too small, the photos themselves were repetitive in nature, and in order to jump from photo to photo one has to back-arrow to the entire match screen again and again. For me at least, a perfect breast-smother or facesit is a beautiful thing, but it lessens the impact considerably when I'm too busy back-arrowing and scrolling on match photos looking for something cool.

I think its a wholly personal call.
Myself I lean towards photos mainly because the skill level of the girls can vary from company to company or, even, tape/DVD/.wav to tape/DVD/.wav. While a pair of girls can make a convincing looking set of photos, not every great looking/built girl can wrestle well or sell a match/hold well. Photos let the viewer fill in the gaps. In some vids/files, on the other hand, its harder to look past the obvious fact that this or that girl can't sell a hold well or is having trouble actually wrestling. |
