Kick Ass Column #4: A Look At Christie Ricci’s KOG Title Reign

When the past of KOG is thought of by myself and I’m sure other followers of KOG, one must think about the first KOG Champion, Christie Ricci. Christie Ricci, who made her professional wrestling debut in 2002, was also a former NWA Women’s Champion, but I’ll think of her reign as KOG Champion when I look back on her.

Before The Reign

Christie Ricci didn’t enter KOG as the automatic KOG Champion, instead she had to earn her way to the coveted championship. Christie Ricci made her KOG debut in a battle against Shelly Martinez, known as Ariel to WWE fans or Salinas to TNA fans. Christie Ricci would dominate the match before hitting Shelly Martinez with a suplex to gain the simple pin fall. Christie Ricci would follow it up with a victory over Frankie Z, again finishing off her opponent with a suplex, this time a fisherman’s suplex.

Around The Waist

After achieving two straight victories in KOG, Christie Ricci would get an opportunity to become the first KOG Champion, against dangerous competitor Amber O’Neal. It must have been destiny for Christie Ricci, because the “Mississippi Queen” would finish Amber O’Neal with her patented fisherman’s suplex to get the championship. Most would have expected a rematch for the title between champion Christie Ricci and Amber O’Neal, but Amber O’Neal hasn’t returned to KOG since the loss.

Domination…Well, Almost!

Christie Ricci would go through an amazing run as KOG Champion, beginning with a belly punch match victory over current KAG Champion Deanna. Then Christie Ricci would run into the lone stumbling block of her entire KOG run, a lone loss in a mixed match against Mr.E. Despite a huge weight differential between Christie Ricci and Mr. E, Christie Ricci fought valiantly but succumb to a powerful body slam from her larger foe.

Following a brief break, Christie Ricci would instantly rebound against KOG rookie Buck 20, who was easily demolished by the champion. Christie Ricci would then face professional wrestler Becky Bayless, who was hired by Mr. E to destroy Christie Ricci. Becky Bayless would fail in her assignment, as Christie Ricci won the two out of three fall match in the final fall.

Then, the reign would come to an end, but not before Christie Ricci achieved two more big victories in the KOG universe. First, Christie Ricci would successfully defend her KOG Championship against former KAG Champion Cali. Then, in her final KOG appearance to date, Christie Ricci would defeat Raquel, better known as Caliente to you WOW fans out there.

The Mississippi Queen Leaves The Throne

Following her battle with Raquel, it was announced via the KOG website that Christie Ricci would vacate the KOG Championship due to “personal reasons.” Whether or not you were a fan of Christie Ricci, one could easily admit that she was the most dominant champion in KOG history.
